As a Demo who voted for Obama....what I'm about to say hurts, and I'm going to gargle my mouth and sanatize my fingers when finished....lol...But I've always believed tha Palin is smarter than her opponents think. This could be the beginning of her run for 2012. Palin is smarter than many Demos think. She is now free of the Repub machine. She can go it alone her way...with her supporters. And once her book is published, she'll be making many many speaking engagements in the midwest and south....saying what she wants and no caring about the media or those Repubs who wanted to put a clamp on her. The Demos better not underestimate her. It's the Repubs who messed up during the campaign in using her. She wasn't properly prepared and the McCain people didn't respect her. And I have to admit, those comments by David Letterman didn't help the Demos. She should not be ignored. I'm not crazy about her, but I thought this was a smart move. As a life long Demo who has worked on many campaigns, what always pissed me off was the Demos taking things for granted. They took they 'religious right' for granted and lost. They took the 'silent majority' for granted and lost. Demos need to stop the negative criticism, keep their mouth shut...and concentrate on the economy, unemployment and healthcare....while keeping an eye on Palin...and her supporters. I believe there is a plan, maybe even a third party plan. Obama won because he offered something different. Those who think Palin is stupid...well she also offers something different for independents. Many independents were voting against Bush's politices, not so much for Obama. She'll also be going afterthe youth vote. There's a lot of young right wingers out there like Sean Hannity. Don't take Palin for granted. And...some may disagree...her and Obama are similar in many way, even though they are on different ends of the spectrum. Both come from working class families. Both are rather new to politics. Both have different styles from previous politicians. She'll be going after the female and independent voters. If the economy doesn't turn around during Obama's term, the Demos are in trouble. Right now there's no Repub to lead the party...they are divided in many ways and many are having problems keeping their pants on...lol. But those midwestern states will be watching and listening. And the Demos better not underestimate her. They should stop the negative criticism....but keep an eye on her. Listen to what she's saying. When she said 'politics not as usual'...she's not the usual politican. She didn't want to play the McCain game or the Repubs game. Like those who voted for Obama and wanted a fresh voice....many find Palin a fresh voice too. So I say to the Demos and my fellow liberals.....don't underestimate her....and only criticize her when you know she's made a mistake...and leave her family out of it. How many of you have had a daughter who had a baby out of wedlock????.............Spit spit spit spit.....damn that was nasty...where's my Listerine.....lol. (wipping my mouth)....I know many will disagree....but this is how I see it.

I do agree with you that she is smarter than most give her credit for - and I originally liked her. Until she showed herself as being a true politician and was one who was willing to take the low road. Then got surprised when she got negative press herself. Frankly, unless she resigned for a health crisis of the youngest child, I have less respect for her ducking out on the responsibility the voters of Alaska gave her. I sure wouldn't vote for her for any other office if it turns out to be for political gain. She wouldn't deserve anyone's vote if that were the case.

Not to mention, I think the wrong Republican governor resigned. The gentleman from SC should have.

I watched her speech . She looks/sounds hyped up and excited about whatever she has plans to do. I believe it may be to free her up to write a book and hit the speech circuit as her strategy to make herself the top Rep to run for Prez in 2012. If she's angered her fellow Republicans they may shut her out-but we'll see.

I am with Msshadow on this one. How can she run when she abandoned her job? I think she would love respect from those who are sitting on the fence. Her following has fallen in love with her beauty and her gosh darn, beer drinking buddy personality. Maybe it would make her a good ambassador but not the highest office in America. She lost a lot of women's votes because her lack of professionalism. She hasn't done anything that would change my mind. In fact I think she is a poor excuse for a woman's role in politics.

She is going to run for Prez in 2012-she doesn't have enough sense to quit.
She is probably a good person-but she is in way over her head.

The thought of her being President scares the hell out of me.
As for McCain-that would scare me too.

I don't agree she is 'smarter' but I do think she has the cohones needed...look at her. A relative unknown, no education really,(how many colleges did she attend before she graduated) and a past beauty queen no less.

She has come so far, albeit on McCains coattails, than I would imagine even she thought. Her personal life became fodder for the mills , still she hung in. She is in the process of paying back the state of Alaska for all those illegal traveling expenses and still she hangs in...investiggated for TrooperGate and still she hung on...

I think this is just another step for her.

I don't really know or think anyone really knows what she is up to but she would absolutely have to get some intelligence and garner more support than her base is now to make a serious run for POTUS in 2012.

As it stands now she really wouldn't have a shot in hades I feel..her own party wouldn't really support her.

So she takes some time, learns and studies and maybe then she will make her comeback..

It is puzzling though

Apparently there IS a parallel universe, where black is white, good is evil, Superman is a villain and Sarah Palin has a brain.

In the announcement she stated that she wanted to work on issues important to her = environmental & national security (obviously Alaska isn't; and it wasn't for children with disabilies or unwed mothers or anti-abortion) My first thought was that she has brokered a very lucrative deal with her connections to the company that will be supplying new natural gas pipeline!
